Why I Canceled LinkedIn Premium (and Where I Might Go Next)

I’m still on LinkedIn, but I recently canceled my Premium subscription… and honestly, it felt like ripping off a clingy bandage.

The main reason? Spam and fake job postings have completely taken over the platform. I used to see LinkedIn as a solid tool for freelancers and agencies, but now it feels like every other job post is either suspiciously vague, obviously fake, or designed to harvest your data. It’s exhausting trying to separate the real opportunities from the bait.

And since canceling Premium, the upselling has been non-stop. I get more messages and popups pushing me to “upgrade” again than I ever did when I was actually paying for it. It’s kind of wild how aggressive it gets once you say no.

I’m still keeping my profile up, it’s useful for staying in touch with people I’ve worked with, but I’m definitely rethinking how I spend my time on there.

I’ve been looking into Alignable, which seems to be geared more toward local, small business connections. I haven’t fully jumped in yet, but it feels like it could be a better fit for the kind of work I do.

If you’ve found other platforms or communities that actually help you connect with good clients or collaborators, I’d love to hear about them. Feel free to drop a comment or message me, I’m all ears.
